Mounted turrets are weapon mounts that allow weapons to be fired from a protected and rotatable platform. They can be manned or remotely controlled and are most often protected to some degree, if not actually armored. There are two types of mounted turrets: static mounts and non-static mounts.
Static Turrets
A static mount is a non-portable weapon support component either mounted directly to the ground, on a fortification, or as part of a vehicle. A gun turret is a rotating weapon platform, strictly one that crosses the armor of whatever it is mounted on with a structure called a barbette (on ships) or basket (on tanks) and has a protective structure on top (gunhouse). If it has no gunhouse, it is a barbette, and if it has no barbette (i.e., it is mounted to the outside of the vehicle’s armor), it is an installation. Turrets are typically used to mount machine guns, autocannons, or large-caliber guns.
Mounted Turrets
Mounted turrets are used in various applications, including military vehicles, aircraft, and video games. For example, in the video game Fortnite, the Mounted Turret is a Legendary trap item that is a turret machine that can be only placed on floors and has unlimited ammo. In Fortnite Creative, the Mounted Turret is used to offer players a mountable weapon with unlimited ammo.
